Do away with Bottled Water and go to tap water!

Lately, there’s been major issue going on here locally where I live, and probably it goes on in a lot of other areas as well. Especially areas where drought and/or shortages are apparent. Bottled water plants. Apparently, regulatory agencies are issuing permits to allow withdrawal of water from the states water sources in the hundreds of thousands of gallons in a yearly basis.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Wind Energy

This is some interesting info about the advantages and disadvantages of Wind Energy. Seems like alot of “tech” is needed for this kind of energy though, but is a “Clean” source of energy.

Wind energy offers many advantages, which explains why it’s the fastest-growing energy source in the world. Research efforts are aimed at addressing the challenges to greater use of wind energy.

I happened along the “Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy” website and found some interesting resources about Wind Energy. First to start off is with “How Wind Turbines Work”:

The following source is of the US Dept of Energy’s Energy Efficiencey and Renewable Energy website.

Wind is a form of solar energy. Winds are caused by the uneven heating of the atmosphere by the sun, the irregularities of the earth’s surface, and rotation of the earth. Wind flow patterns are modified by the earth’s terrain, bodies of water, and vegetation. Humans use this wind flow, or motion energy, for many purposes: sailing, flying a kite, and even generating electricity.

Bottled Water Healthy or Hoax?

I personally think bottled water is ONLY good for disaster situations, when the power goes out and the pump is not working, and no water is available. Esp. for Floridians when Hurricanes pass through.

Gopher Tortoise Field Training Day

Well….this is my FIRST day in field training for Gopher Tortoises at the ECON River Wilderness Area.

What I learned:

First of all, this is a major point……Gopher Tortoises are a species considered to also known as a “Keystone” species. Keystone species are known as the kind of species, if it dies off, alot of other animal can die off as a result as well. (Kind of reminds me about the future of our honey bees).

During our day hike we were learning about the Ecology of the area of where the tortoises thrive. We had come across an area that apparently sometime back, there had been a subscribed burn. Apparently, this can lay out the landscape for our tortoise critters.

Sometimes there’s area in the park, where the water table raises and subsides quite frequently, causing some tortoises to have water rise into the bottom of the burrow. In attempt to retrieve the tortoises from such burrows (so they don’t die) there would be a issue with trying to retrieve them because they would go the opposite direction (to escape human hands of the people trying to save them) and submerge themselves in the risen water. So the fluctuating water table can be in issue in lower areas of the park.

This the area where the canopy went, with NO transition to the lower vegetative areas due to the previous “burn” that took place there.
